Into the Grey
Book 6 of The Backup Superhero Series
By Kayla Hicks
In the heart of New York City, where the line between heroes and villains blurs, stands Seed—an enigmatic genius trapped in a web of his own making. For years, he's armed the powerful and the perilous, keeping a delicate balance. But now, as he seeks to retire and escape the shadows, a new menace rises.
Grover Pavlov, a name whispered with fear, has plans that threaten to unravel everything Seed has worked for.
In a twist of fate, Seed's final job, a covert deal with the city's most feared crime boss, Francesca, goes awry. With Francesca missing and Pavlov in her place, Seed is plunged into a game of chess with stakes higher than ever.
Caught between his legacy and the unknown future, Seed must navigate a battleground where allies and enemies are interchangeable. Can he outsmart Pavlov and safeguard a city teetering on the edge, or is his past doomed to define his future?
I enjoy reading books that drop you into the action right from the beginning and continue to move throughout the story. And, of course, they need to go through a few twists along the way. I gave “Into the Grey” a high rating for meeting these criteria, and for having a distinctive storyline. The story combines the feel of the old 1940s hard-boiled crime books with superhero stories and updated technology. It also views the superheroes from a different, sometimes unflattering, point of view. This is Book 4 of 4 from “The Backup Superhero Series.” While this release stands on its own, I look forward to reading the first three books.
