Review: Chaotic Devices (Chaos Guardians Book 1)
I had the opportunity to read Chaotic Devices by Sarah Eriksen and found it to be a very enjoyable read. Let's find out what it's about.
Chaotic Devices (Chaos Guardians Book 1):
Everything began with Chaos.
Chaos created the universe and the gods. Chaos then created boundaries between worlds. These borders were placed across all of existence to prevent various forms of life from traveling to worlds, planets, and realms they were forbidden to exist on for countless reasons. Chaos tasked one of the gods with monitoring and defending the borders. This god searched for beings that had the potential to manipulate creation energy. These individuals became guardians, magic users, and warriors who fight to keep the borders defended from anything and everything that crossed through them.
Skye Kelly is a guardian. Monsters, magic, and evil plots are a part of her everyday life, along with running a coffee shop and hanging out with her twin brother and her friends. When horrific creatures from another world start targeting guardians on Earth, it's up to Skye and her friends to unravel their evil scheme before it's too late.
My Review:
Eriksen does a phenomenal job of setting up realistic characters/heroes in the sense that they aren't always saving the world from peril. They too have lives to live. I personally connected with Skye's personality, the main character who worked in a book store and sipped coffee in the downtime (sounds like a dream!)
The heroes have great potential with a wide range of powers which I can't wait til see how they use in the books following this one.
Eriksen does a great job building a world, establishing favorable characters and keeping the reader turning the pages as well as creating believable heroes with powers.
This is a great read for Fantasy and Magic readers and I highly recommend it! It gets a five-star rating from me!
