Review: Dead Heads (Gloomwood Book 1)
I've recently had my site updated to upload photos which now means I can give all the books I review their proper time in the spotlight. (Yay!)
So, which book am I reviewing on my sight first? That would be Dead Heads (Gloomwood Book 1) by Ross Young.
What is it about?
What happens when we die?
Why are dead people scared?
Who would take the Grim Reaper's head?
Welcome to Gloomwood, the city of the dead and the Grim Reaper's personal slice of the afterlife. In a city where the rules of the living don't apply, Detective Blunt's drowning in trouble and he's never been much of a swimmer.
With the aid of a reality-challenged scientist, a bumbling bureaucrat, and a self-titled 'reporter extraordinaire', he's on a case where everyone's already kicked the bucket.
Dead gods, forgotten dreams, broken promises, lost hopes - They all end up in this city, and any of them could have a reason for exacting revenge.
Can Blunt uncover the villain decapitating the city's elite before the afterlife implodes?
Feel like laughing in the face of Death?
We better find his head...
You'll love this afterlife adventure because we all want to know what comes after death... if anything at all.
Sounds great right? Here's my review.
This book took a concept known by many names, the afterlife, the underworld, the world beyond, and made it feel unique and new! Ross Young's world-building made me feel as if I were right there taking the journey along with the detective and figuring out the mystery. What's more interesting are the mysteries that Officer Blunt uncovers on his journey to find the Grim Reapers head, an interesting idea to say the least.
My rating is five stars and I would highly recommend this for readers who love humor, unique ideas, and detective stories.
You can also find more titles from Ross Young including Get Ted Dead (Gloomwood Book 2), and The Decagon Key.
