Love and The Lottery: A Kayla Hicks Book Review
What is it about?
Lizzy's preparing to graduate from St. Andrews University (the domain of royalty and rich kids), and on the surface, she has everything: a stellar academic record, and a rich, connected boyfriend destined for a high-flying career in accounting ... but she's always felt like a fish out of water, and she can't shake the feeling something's off. So when handsome, flirtatious Will comes back into her life, she knows she's in trouble.
Will left university three years ago, and he's already heading for the stratosphere, his latest achievements a massive promotion at work and a new flat in London. It seems to Lizzy he has everything figured out, but as they grow closer, she realizes they're more similar than they seem, and just like her, Will's had to fight for everything he has.
As Lizzy tries to choose her next steps in life, she buys a lottery ticket on a whim. She wins more money than she could ever dream of - seemingly the answer to all her woes - but she hides it, because deep down, she knows it's going to ruin her life. And of course, hiding it can't last forever ...
Contemporary romance Love and the Lottery is a fun, steamy romp through the lives of the privileged. It's a standalone rom-com that's the perfect beach read.
My Review:
Lizzy is a hard-working student at Saint Andrews who knows the value of what she's doing. Despite her crummy family and financial situation, she manages to have an amazing boyfriend named Patrick, and two best friends named Sophie and Will.
However, as the end of her schooling nears and the reality of real life comes knocking at her door, she begins to realize that her boyfriend Patrick isn't as perfect for her as she thought. And she realizes that she has no idea what she wants to do with her life after school finishes.
On a whim, Lizzy buys a lottery ticket and tucks it away, completely forgetting about it until her friend Will calls to ask if she won the lottery.
Lo and behold, Lizzy's luck takes a turn and she wins the lottery and hides it from everyone she knows not wanting it to change her life.
This book was a fun read and I really loved Lizzy and Will's characters. They dealt with family business issues, trying to navigate newfound wealth, and how these things impacted their relationships with everyone else. I read through this quickly and was sad to see it end.
I give this book a 5-star review.
